SMUGGLING DUDS UFC 229 GAMBLING GUIDE
FINALLY! Nurmagomedov Vs McGregor. Many thought the Irish superstar would never return to MMA let alone face a man he terrorised so much out of the cage, it almost resulted in jail time. If ever there was a main event that was genetically made up of bad blood then this would be it. All of our fingers and toes are crossed so that nobody gets injured and everyone makes weight. We suggest you do the same.
Khabib Nurmagomedov Vs Conor McGregor (LW)
Where to start? Fuelled by hate, both fighters will surely crave nothing less than a brutal stoppage. We could literally talk strategies and outcomes all day with this one but the only two outcomes we can see is McGregor shocking the world (again) with a first round KO, or Nurmagomedov pinning McGregor to the ground for five rounds whilst the richest athlete in MMA fights for his life from the bottom. Maybe bet on both outcomes? We will be.
WINNER: Nurmagomedov
METHOD: Decision
Tony Ferguson Vs Anthony Pettis (LW)
Although coming off a much needed victory, onetime face of the UFC Anthony Pettis still isn’t back to his old self. He isn’t a force to be reckoned with anymore and certainly doesn’t pose the same threat to Tony Ferguson as he may have done five years ago.
WINNER: Ferguson
METHOD: Decision
Ovince Saint Preux Vs Dominick Reyes (LHW)
You never know what your going to get with OSP. A legit athlete with an abundance of skills but sometimes things just don’t go his way and the momentum he has built up goes out the window. He will be by far the toughest fighter his opponent has faced but Reyes looks like a legit headhunter and might bag himself a big name here.
WINNER: Reyes
METHOD: KO/TKO
Derrick Lewis Vs Alexander Volkov (HW)
On paper this is a very entertaining bout, almost video game like! Something tells us it won’t be. Volkov will keep Lewis at bay with his extra long limbs and the fight will end before ‘The Black Beast’ has even started. Hopefully we are wrong.
WINNER: Volkov
METHOD: Decision
Michelle Waterson Vs Felipe Herrig (STRAW)
Many might think this is an easy bout for Waterson - its not. Herrig has been around a long time and seems to have put her demons to bed. A very tough bout to call and we’ve changed our decision many times. ‘The Karate Hottie’ might not get the stoppage but she might do more to convince the judges.
WINNER: Waterson
METHOD: Decision
PRELIMS (FOX SPORTS 1)
Sergio Pettis Vs Jussier Formiga (FLY)
Can Formiga make it a hat-trick of rear naked chokes against a durable Sergio Pettis? Pettis is yet to reach the heights of his older brother but should walk away with another comfortable decision victory.
WINNER: Pettis
METHOD: Decision
Vicente Luque Vs Jalin Turner (WW)
We’ve seen recently some of the stars emerging from Dana White’s ‘Contender’ reality series have struggled in their UFC debut. This is what we might witness again as Jalin Turner gets welcomed by ‘Silent Assassin’ Vincent Luque to the big league.
WINNER: Luque
METHOD: Turner
Aspen Ladd Vs Tonya Evinger (BW)
Possibly the toughest bout to call on the entire card. Evinger went 3 rounds with Cyborg Santos until the ref had seen enough, but proved to fans if anything, she’s a tough cookie. Ladd probably won’t get a stoppage but could win by being the busier fighter. Leave this one off the acca.
WINNER: Ladd
METHOD: Decision
PRELIMS (UFC FIGHT PASS)
Lina Lansberg Vs Yama Kunitskaya (BW)
Neither athletes are actually that good so this one is totally up for grabs. Both have fluctuated with wins and losses and both have been blasted out of the octagon by Cyborg Santos. If Kunitskaya doesn’t make an impact here she could well have her UFC career cut short, so we expect her to do whatever it takes to scrape a decision on the night.
WINNER: Kunitskaya
METHOD: Decision
Scott Holtzman Vs Alan Patrick (LW)
Another tough one to call. Solid grapplers going head to head but Patrick seems to have a little more in his arsenal.
WINNER: Patrick
METHOD: Decision
Gray Maynard Vs Nick Lentz (LW)
Normally we wouldn’t think twice about picking against UFC veteran Gray Maynard but regular gambling guide readers will see we’ve picked a couple of veteran underdogs of late - namely Diego Sanchez and Jim Miller. Can we do it again?
WINNER: Maynard
METHOD: Decision
Ryan LaFlare Vs Tony Martin (WW)
Two decision victory specialists will go head to head to see who will be the ultimate king of points. Surely it has to be decision daddy LaFlare?
WINNER: LaFlare
METHOD: Decision
