SMUGGLING DUDS UFC 230 GAMBLING GUIDE
As the dust finally settles on a memorable UFC 229 we dive in Khabib style off the top of the octagon in to another jam packed card. Can ‘The Black Beast’ well and truly defy the odds and take the belt from ‘DC’ on only three weeks notice?.....If he does it will be one of the greatest post fight interviews ever.
MAIN CARD
Daniel Cormier Vs Derrick Lewis (HW)
For a man that told Joe Rogan he needed to work on his cardio and wasn’t ready for a title shot (YouTube it), fan favourite Derrick Lewis shocked many by accepting this fight with the current champ. Lewis hits like a freight train, and with this being a heavyweight bout, there is always the chance anything can happen. We don’t think it will though and it’ll be a case of get the take down, finish with a beat down.
WINNER: Cormier
METHOD: KO/TKO
Chris Weidman Vs Ronaldinho Souza (MW)
As a battle worn 38 year old Souza must surely be nearing the end of his career. It will be interesting to see how he deals with Weidman, a fighter back in the ‘W’ column. Pretty sure this one goes the distance and ends up being a hug fest.
WINNER: Weidman
METHOD: Decision
David Branch Vs Jared Cannonier (MW)
His terrible performance against Luke Rockhold seemed to have just been a bad day at the office as the former WSOF stand out is actually quite good. Expect him to end Cannoniers UFC employment by handing him his third consecutive loss.
WINNER: Branch
METHOD: KO/TKO
Karl Roberson Vs Jack Marshman (MW)
We’d love the Welshman to get a win in this one but if Roberson has done his homework, he’ll know he needs to get Marsham on the floor right away to where he is the least threat. Marshman still hasn’t found his feet in the UFC and needs to enter this one knowing he deserves to be in there with the best.
WINNER: Roberson
METHOD: Submission
Derek Brunson Vs Israel Adesanya (MW)
Brunson’s beef with the younger fighter has made this bout a little more interesting. Adesanya has all the confidence in the world (as does his opponent) but for some reason we predict both fighters won’t be as wild as usual and it could be a tentative affair. We shall see. Depending on final odds, Brunson as the underdog might be a decent bet if you have money to spare but being sensible, Adesanya should take this on points.
WINNER: Adesanya
METHOD: Decision
PRELIMS (Fox Sport 1)
Jason Knight Vs Jordan Rinaldi (FW)
The biggest difference in this one is the fact that Knight has lost three on the bounce where as his opponent has only one. What seemed like a promising career in the UFC has kind of fizzled out for Knight but surely he will do everything he can to scrape a win here? If not he may well be sent packing.
WINNER: Knight
METHOD: Decision
Sijara Eubanks Vs Roxanne Modafferi (FLY)
Originally lined up to face the much bigger task of Valentina Shevchenko (rather complicated but basically Shevchenko is now going ahead with an original bout against Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 231) The TUF 26 star will now rematch against fellow TUF 26 fighter Roxanne Modafferi. Eubanks was scheduled to face Nicco Montaño on December 1, 2017 on the season finale, for the inaugural UFC Women’s Flyweight title but was pulled from the fight due to kidney failure while trying to make weight and was replaced by Roxanne Modafferi (who finished the show as runner up). Modafferi has been around forever but has never quite reached the top. Is this finally her time. Why the hell not?
WINNER: Modafferi
METHOD: Submission
Julio Arce Vs Sheymon Moraes (FW)
Julio Arce is one example of Dana White’s Contender Series TV show that shows great potential. Very comfortable in the octagon and yet to be defeated Moraes is no push over but Arce should take another win.
WINNER: Arce
METHOD: Submission
Ben Saunders Vs Lyman Good (WW)
Killa B has become quite the company man lately. Although his record is a bit up and down he is always up for a scrap and has stepped in on relatively late notice to face Lyman Good. After a Decision loss in his last outing, Good will be making sure this one doesn’t go the distance. Potential fight of the night winner right here.
WINNER: Good
METHOD: KO/TKO
PRELIMS (UFC Fight Pass)
Matt Frevola Vs Lando Vannata (LW)
Can’t help but think that after a series of really tough scraps the UFC have given Lando Vannata an easier bout against a less experienced opponent. We may be wrong.
WINNER: Vannata
METHOD: KO/TKO
Shane Burgos Vs Kurt Holobaugh (FW)
Very evenly matched bout in our opinion. Swerve this one on your accumulator.
WINNER: Burgos
METHOD: Decision
Brian Kelleher Vs Montell Jackson (BW)
We’ll pick a win for the Contender series star. He might even get the stoppage.
WINNER: Jackson
METHOD: Decision
Marcos Rogerio de Lima Vs Adam Wieczorek(HW)
Although both have been quite inactive, the Polish native is still on too good of a winning streak to lose this one.
WINNER: Wieczorek
METHOD: Submission
