SMUGGLING DUDS UFC 232 GAMBLING GUIDE
We thought about writing this guide and uploading last week but we just knew there was going to end up being some controversy. Having hung back to see if the main event was to be scrapped we are happy that it wasn’t. Regardless of the controversy we have ourselves a great card to end the year.
Happy new year everyone!
MAIN CARD
Jon Jones Vs Alexander Gustafsson (LHW)
On September 21st 2013, these two produced one of the best light heavyweight bouts we’ve ever seen. More often than not a rematch produces a totally different style of fight which will be interesting. So much controversy has gone in to this rematch going ahead and when push comes to shove, Jon Jones is a phenomenal athlete so none of it should affect him or the result, we just think the stars are aligning for the Swedish star (plus we love a good underdog victory here at Smuggling Duds!)
WINNER: Gustafsson
METHOD: Decision
Cris Cyborg Vs Amanda Nunes (FW)
Once in a while the UFC produces a women’s bout that actually gets fans excited. This is one of them. Two hard hitting alpha females going head-to-head in what will end up being a boxing match. Nunes will try and keep the more aggressive Cyborg at bay for as long as possible but ultimately it will be Cyborg that gets her hand raised. The only way Nunes wins this is if she goes after her opponent from the bell. Nobody does that against Cyborg though.
WINNER: Cyborg
METHOD: KO/TKO
Carlos Condit Vs Michael Chiesa (WW)
Just like every other die hard MMA fan, nothing would make us happier than seeing Condit back to his ‘Natural Born Killer’ ways and finally get back in the win column. Time and time again we’ve backed him but but time and time again he’s shown us that previous battles and injuries have simply caught up with him. Chiesa is still relatively fresh in the game and will become the man who called time on Carlos Condit’s UFC career.
WINNER: Chiesa
METHOD: Submission
Ilir Latifi Vs Corey Anderson (LHW)
A lot more even than some reports are suggesting, plus Latifi will have picked up a few pointers from training partner, Jimi Manuwa who destroyed Anderson only a year ago.
WINNER: Latifi
METHOD: Decision
Chad Mendes Vs Alexander Volkanovski (FW)
What a fight! Lots of people saying Mendes will be victorious but we are not so sure. Although not quite superstar level, Volkanovski has proven to be a force in the featherweight division, and could get the biggest win of his career against the former title contender.
WINNER: Volkanovski
METHOD: Decision
PRELIMS (Fox Sports 1)
Andrei Arlovski Vs Walt Harris (HW)
Arlovski seemed to experience a resurgence in his UFC career but he’s now well and truly back in firing line. Literally. Following recent performances we cant see this going any other way.
WINNER: Harris
METHOD: KO/TKO
Cat Zingano Vs Megan Anderson (FW)
It was only in March this year Zingano’s UFC career was in limbo after personal problems and below par performances produced 3 losses in a row. A decision victory over respected Marion Reneau well and truly saved her bacon and she should be able to do the same here. Although much bigger in height, thats about all Megan Anderson brings to the table. Zingano should eventually work her way in a secure a few takedowns. She might event get the stoppage.
WINNER: Zingano
METHOD: Decision
Douglas Silva De Andrade Vs Pete Yan (BW)
A tougher one to call than people think but Yan should maintain his win streak one the night.
WINNER: Yan
METHOD: Decision
BJ Penn Vs Ryan Hall (BW)
Many will feel that with Ryan Hall not fighting in 2 years, and not being a threat on the feet, the UFC have perhaps given one of their all time greats an easier bout here. This could be the one that gets Penn a much needed win as the Hawaiian star hasn’t grabbed a ‘W’ in 6 fights. Hall is an absolute menace on the ground and the most likely outcome will either be the former TUF winner stealing a submission or grinding out a points win. Penn is a legend, but talk of an extended UFC contract is hopefully just rumours.
WINNER: Hall
METHOD: Decision
PRELIMS (UFC Fight Pass)
Brian Kelleher Vs Montel Jackson (BW)
Both faced set backs in their careers with recent losses. Kelleher will be the man to get back on track against another Contender Series standout that just cant quite cut it in the big league yet.
WINNER: Kelleher
METHOD: Decision
Andre Ewell Vs Nathanial Wood (BW)
Still a relatively unknown name in the US, British ‘Prospect’ Nathanial Wood will be looking to make a name on one of the biggest UFC cards of the year. Ewell is a solid opponent but it would be great to see the Brit get another win under the UFC spotlight.
WINNER: Wood
METHOD: KO/TKO
Uriah Hall Vs Bevon Lewis (MW)
There’s just something about these young contenders and not being able to shake the octagon jitters. Hall’s time has been and gone but experience should prevail here. Plus Hall needs to convince his employers he still deserves to be in the UFC.
WINNER: Hall
METHOD: KO/TKO
Curtis Millender Vs Siyar Bahadurzad (WW)
A tasty little scrap on paper this one. Millender, currently on an 8-fight win streak takes on the durable Bahadurzad, who himself isn’t doing too bad himself having put together 3 wins on the bounce.
WINNER: Millender
METHOD: KO/TKO
