SMUGGLING DUDS UFC 246 GAMBLING GUIDE
The UFC kick starts 2020 with the return of one of the biggest stars in MMA!
Conor McGregor takes on all round badass and veteran of the sport, Donal ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone in the highly anticipated main event.
Main Card (BT Sport)
Conor McGregor vs. Donald Cerrone (Welterweight)
‘The Notorious’ hasn’t fought since his crushing defeat at the hands of current champ Khabib Nurmagomedov back in Oct 2018. His team are saying McGregor is in the best shape he has ever been (why wouldn’t they?) and many saying this is a relatively easy comeback against someone in the twilight of their career. Cerrone’s record is insane (50 matches, 36 wins, 13 losses) and nobody can deny the former WEC star will literally fight anyone at anytime. One thing we learned in 2019 when picking fights on a UFC card is that you will ALWAYS get at least one underdog that shocks the bookies and gets the win. Can Cerrone beat McGregor? Of course he can. Will he? Probably not. We expect an early stoppage and for MMA legend Cerrone to call time on an amazing career.
WINNER: McGregor
METHOD: KO/TKO
Holly Holm vs. Raquel Pennington (Women's Bantamweight)
These two actually fought in 2015 at UFC 184 in a very close (split) decision. The decision went in the favour of Pennington that night but Holm should get her hand raised this time with a convincing points victory.Maintaining her distance and running rings around the durable Pennington will be key but that’s the former belt holders favourite style.
WINNER: Holm
METHOD: Decision
AlekseiOleinik vs. Maurice Greene (Heavyweight)
TUF 28 contestant Greene gets his first real test here in the form of 71 fight veteran Oleinik. The Soviet Sambo and grappling star is for sure coming to the end of his career and at 42 years of age, he took some serious knocks last year losing both of his 2019 bouts by stoppage. He’ll be looking to go out on a win and he just might get it.
WINNER:Oleinik
METHOD: Submission
Cláudia Gadelha vs. Alexa Grasso (Women's Strawweight)
Both fighters have impressive records and although she’s only 26, Grasso seems to have been on the scene for ages. Overall experience should prevail here and if Gadelha wants to be considered as a serious title contender she’ll need a convincing win against the talented Mexican. Grappling will be key but if Gadelha gets drawn into a boxing match she’ll no doubt throw this bout away.
WINNER: Gadelha
METHOD: Decision
Anthony Pettis vs. Carlos Diego Ferreira (Lightweight)
Pettis has shown glimpses of his old ‘Showtime’ self but he still isn’t the force he once was and his opponents know this. This is a definitely a tough one to call and Pettis is up against it against Ferreira. We might get this massively wrong but we love taking risks. Pettis to bring the pain and prove to his employers he’s still worthy of main card status.
WINNER:Pettis
METHOD: KO/TKO
Preliminary card (ESPN2)
Roxanne Modafferi vs. Maycee Barber (Women's Flyweight)
Barber is the product of Dana White’s Contender Series and where many have struggled, she has proven that the big leagues is where she should be. Modafferi is a true legend of women’s MMA and has produced an upset on more than one occasion. This won’t be the case against Barber.
WINNER: Barber
METHOD: KO/TKO
Andre Fili vs. SodiqYusuff(Featherweight)
Arguably the toughest bout to call on the entire card. Both experienced success in their past outings, both had a great 2019 and both looking in the best form of their careers. Toss a coin.
WINNER:Yusuff
METHOD: Decision
Drew Dober vs. NasratHaqparast(Lightweight)
Another super tough bout to call. Dober really is one of the most likely candidates to pull off an upset at UFC 246. Haqparast will be the favourite on the night and should scrape a decision win.
WINNER:Haqparast
METHOD:Decision
Early Preliminary card (UFC Fight Pass)
Chas Skelly vs. Grant Dawson (Featherweight)
Dawson might be ten years younger than Skelly but he racked up almost as many pro fights. Skelly needs to win this one to reduce his chances of being cut. He might have to get packing as Dawson will no doubt favour the judges scorecards with his work rate.
WINNER: Dawson
METHOD: Decision
Tim Elliott vs. AskarAskarov(Flyweight)
Undefeated in 11 bouts, rising Russian star AskarAskarov still needs to make an impression in the UFC. A in over seasoned vet Elliot should help.
WINNER:Askarov
METHOD: Submission
Brian Kelleher vs. Ode Osbourne (Bantamweight)
Making his debut off the back of Dana White’s reality show, Osbourne has been handed a relatively easy debut that he should grab with both hands (around the neck if he can).
WINNER: Osbourne
METHOD: Submission
Sabina Mazo vs. JJ Aldrich(Women's Flyweight)
Hard one to call that will no doubt go the distance. Leave this one off the acca for sure!
WINNER:Mazo
METHOD: Decision
AleksaCamur vs. Justin Ledet(Light Heavyweight)
Ledet was taken out in style by a young up and comer in his previous bout. This one is likely to go exactly the same way. With limited experience and making his UFC debut, a lot is expected from 24 year old Camur. He will deliver though.
WINNER: Camur
METHOD: KO/TKO
